Overview of storage options on AWS

Different types of data will require different services. AWS has solutions for all types of data with features that enable us to store classic block-level data, static web content, files, and solutions that emulate tape-based storage and help us efficiently transfer huge petabyte and exabyte datasets between our on-premises environment and AWS regions. The solutions available in AWS are the following:

  • Amazon EBS and Instance Store (discussed in Chapter 5, Managing Servers on AWS with Elastic Compute Cloud)
  • Amazon S3 and Glacier (discussed in Chapter 7, Understanding Simple Storage Service and Glacier)
  • Amazon Elastic File System (EFS)
  • Amazon Storage Gateway
  • Amazon Snowball and Snowmobile
