51. Allow Free Postage for Free Items


You might have products in your store that are to be given to clients at no cost; these could be catalogues, brochures, or product samples. You might not want to charge for their shipping either. The Table Rate shipping module covers this scenario well, using amount-based calculation and setting zero cost for an Order Total of $0.00, or using weight-based calculation and setting the weight of the free items to 0. However, you might be using a different system such as USPS (United States Postal Service), and might prefer to hide that information for this type of customer, showing only the following Free Postage module.

Adding this new recipe will give you the following screen for your Shipping Modules, assuming you are using USPS as your primary shipping module:

When adding only free items to the cart and checking out, the regular shipping module is hidden and instead the Free Postage module is visible:
