The process, aside from the restoration of Active Directory on your DC, also involves the deletion of the records in the AD of the previous domain controller. If the DNS records and objects related to the failed DC stay within AD, a lot of errors regarding replication may show up in the event logs. Sometimes, applications may fail if they have either cached or a specific domain controller information. The cleaning process should always be done. Generally, you should do this before starting the recovery in order to avoid the above-mentioned errors. However, in case of urgency, you can perform this step after you have a functioning system.

Please make sure that you write down the name of the old server, and do not give the new domain controller the same name unless it is necessary, for example, if you have an application that are that specific DC, and then only after the complete removal of all objects and records referencing that DC, and once the removal has replicated throughout...
