Time for Action Convert a Crossword to Moodle


  1. First, create your crossword with JCross:

2. This file has been saved as jet_crossword.jcw.

3. Choose the topic (or, in my case, week) to which you want to add your crossword to, click on the Add an activity... drop-down menu, and choose Hot Potatoes Quiz.

4. In the General box, press the browse button and locate your Hot Potatoes file:

5. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and press the Save and display button.

6. Here's how my crossword looks now that it has been converted to Moodle:

What Just Happened?

We've just followed the process of me converting my Jet Engine Crossword to Moodle. Here are the advantages of me doing so:

  • I don't have to worry about collecting in pieces of paper, looking after them, marking them, and handing them back again.

  • The crossword is marked automatically.

  • By clicking on Grades from the course Administration block, I can see at a glance who has attempted the crossword and how well they did (there's more on the course...
