Creating Courses


Once the Add a new course button has been selected from within the Course categories menu, Moodle directs you to the screen where the course details have to be entered. These details are identical to the course settings that can be edited from within a course by a teacher. The only difference is that, by default, the teacher does not have the right to change the category the course belongs to.

The following settings are available:

Category

Category to which the course belongs.

Full name

The full name of the course is displayed at the top of the screen and in the course listings.

Short name

Many organizations have a shorthand way of referring to a course, for example 1CB2. The field is compulsory since it is used in several places where the full name is inappropriate (such as in the breadcrumb trail).

Course ID Number

Official course code (often used in conjunction with external systems).
