Cross-sells


Have you stood at the checkout queue in a grocery store and noticed all the small, inexpensive merchandise that they place next to the register? Candy bars, tabloids, batteries, air fresheners for your car, the list goes on. Most people call these items "impulse purchases". They are small items that retailers tempt us with, as we wait for them to ring up our purchases.

Magento enables you to offer your online customers impulse purchases at checkout. We call these cross-sells. In the example below, the after-coffee mints are displayed as a cross-sell.

Unlike a physical store, the shopper is not held for a long time in the checkout queue. This means that online cross-sells need to be especially compelling for your customers to add them. However, online cross-sells do have an advantage that physical cross-sells lack. With Magento, we know what the shopper has in the shopping cart before he/she approaches the checkout.
