Time for action—creating the header, footer, and menu in Photoshop


  1. 1. Open Photoshop (or any other image manipulation package), go to File | New, and create a new document with the following settings:

    I prefer to use a widescreen resoluti on, as it frames the theme nicely and gives an indication about how people will view your theme on wider monitors.

  2. 2. Make sure that you have the Info window open by going to the menu bar and then clicking on Window | Info.

    The Info palett e will appear on your left -hand side palett es menu, and will allow you to measure areas within Photoshop.

  3. 3. Click on the Rectangular Marquee tool.

  4. 4. Draw a rectangle selection across the whole document. Make this 90px high. You can see its height, as you make the rectangle selection, in the Info palette.

  5. 5. Go to the color chooser and click on foreground color, and choose the color that you want and then click OK.

  6. 6. Choose File | Layer | New.

  7. 7. Choose File | Edit File | Fill and then Select | Deselect.
