Setting a pass or fail grade condition


If we leave the activity completion settings as they are now, our students will get a check to tell them they've completed the quiz whether they get 5% or 95% simply because they have met the condition Require grade. However, Stuart intends to set the availability conditions in Lesson 1 such that they won't be able to access the quiz unless they get 40% or more. This will confuse Andy and Emma. If the quiz is marked as completed, why can't they start the lesson?

We need to tinker a bit with the gradebook first to sort this confusion out. We need to make it so that the quiz is only shown as completed if the students get 40% or more. To do that, we need to set the pass grade for this quiz to 40% in the gradebook. Here's how Stuart does it. He heads for Course Administration as shown in the following screenshot:

After this he needs to:

  1. Click on Grades

  2. Select Edit categories and items
