In this chapter, we've covered the various new possibilities of using templates in Joomla! 1.6. This is what we have covered:

  • Joomla! 1.6 templates now output clean code, using standards-compliant XHTML and CSS. The code is well-structured and compatible with current web standards.

  • The new Template Manager interface allows you to quickly jump from the Template Manager: Styles tab to Template Manager: Templates tab.

  • Template Styles are a new concept in Joomla! 1.6. You can configure any template through a series of options and save this as a Template Style. You can then assign this specific style to one or more menu items.

  • It's possible to give individual pages a specific look either by assigning a Template Style to menu items from the template settings screen, or by assigning the appropriate Template Style directly from the specific menu items.

  • The Template Manager | Templates screen allows you to explore all available templates, preview templates, and edit the template HTML and CSS files...
