Summary

In this chapter, you have learned how to optimize and monitor Moodle's performance.

As you have probably gathered from the content, system and application optimization is not always straightforward. It depends on a range of circumstances such as the system Moodle is running on, the hardware that is utilized, the network, the number of concurrent users logged in to the system, the types of activities that are carried out, and so on. While the basic optimization is usually straightforward, fine-tuning can become a bit of an art in itself. A lot of trial and error (that is, profiling) will be required to achieve the ideal setup for your Moodle system.

Some Moodle Partners offer health checks that include performance checkups. It is worth investigating this option, if your system runs sluggishly.

Now that your system should perform to its maximum potential, let's make sure that you have a professional backup and recovery strategy in place, which is covered in the next chapter.
