In this chapter, we have discovered two methods for getting data in and out of MDS without using the supplied Master Data Manager, how to integrate MDS data into rich applications, and how to update data in MDS based on a SharePoint 2010 workflow. The following key points should be noted:
The WCF service should be used in favor of the assemblies where possible
The API can be encapsulated within a wrapper to enable ease of use
The API allows retrieval, updating, and insertion of MDS data
MDS data can be utilized in a line of business application without having to copy data around the business
