We need a password file in two situations:
If we have Q Capture and Q Apply running on different machines, and if we are expecting Q Apply to perform an initial load, then Q Apply must be able to connect to the remote Q Capture server. We therefore need a password file on the Q Apply server.
If we are using the Replication Alert Monitor, then we need a password file on the system that is running the monitor tables.
If Q Capture and Q Apply are running on the same machine (that is, they are both local databases), then we do not need a password file.
We create a password file using the asnpwd
command. The password file needs to be in the directory pointed to by the APPLY_PATH
