Because Analysis Cubes for Excel is such a highly customizable product with several different components that must be maintained on the back-end, we have divided our chapter on Analysis Cubes into two. This chapter has covered the numerous aspects related to installing and setting up Analysis Cubes for first time use and then making some minor modifications to the Analysis Services database to make the cubes more useful for our organization. In doing so, we hope our readers have gained a measure of just how far we can expand the usefulness of this reporting tool. Although it takes time to learn the various inner workings of SQL to the point that we can make customizations to an Analysis Services database without reservation, the benefits of being able to do this are tremendous! As we move forward into a future of increased data consumption and storage, designing and maintaining Online Analytical Processing and data mining tools will be critical tools to have in our reporting toolset...
