What if there is no governance


Your organization may not have yet reached the point where there is a maturity of understanding that there is a need to model a business. Without that understanding, there can be no conversation around governance. So what do you do if faced with that situation? You have no choice but to learn how to sell an idea.

This technique has been developed by Shirlaws. You can use it in any situation where you need to communicate an idea. So it doesn't matter if there is governance or not. I will introduce the idea, but there is not sufficient room in this book to explain it in great detail. If you see merit, then go and connect with your nearest Shirlaws coach, to get the full understanding. All I can say is that before I learned it, I was effective about 20% of the time. Now that percentage has probably increased to 60%.

Four steps

The way most people try to communicate an idea follows four steps:

  1. 1. Take some time to build rapport. (How are you doing today?)

  2. 2. Outline...
