Performance evaluation process


The performance evaluation process is fairly standard across most organizations. Also, it has not changed much over the last decade and a half. Let's look at some key aspects of the process itself.

Appraisal form

The appraisal form is the primary artifact used in the performance evaluation process. Most of the process steps will revolve around filling out a section of this document. The document is designed such that it acts as the guide for the process and adds consistency to it.

An appraisal form is designed for a particular job definition or a job code; for example, the form used for a software engineer would be different for a development manager or a product manager or a technical support engineer. A single form usually applies to multiple job functions, which may be closely related (perhaps because the HR folks don't want to spend too much time developing one that is unique to a job function).
