Using db2ckbkp—DB2 check backup tool for backup integrity


This utility is used for checking the backup file integrity to determine if the backup file image is eligible for restore. Also, with the help of this tool, we can read the backup image header information. In this area, various descriptions are stored (if logs are included, if the backup image is compressed, and so on).

Getting ready

Next, we will perform a full database backup. We will perform a check of the backup image. These operations are followed by corrupting the backup image to see what the tool reports after.

How to do it...

  1. Back up the NAV database:

    [db2inst1@nodedb21 ~]$ db2 "BACKUP DATABASE NAV ONLINE TO "/data/backup" WITH 2 BUFFERS BUFFER 1024 PARALLELISM 1 WITHOUT PROMPTING"
    
    Backup successful. The timestamp for this backup image is : 20110809161456
    
  2. List the available backups:
