Preface

Time for action - blocking out the body of the ship


  1. 1. Pick the Sphere3D tool, draw it on the canvas, and enter Edit mode.

  2. 2. Go to Tool and click on the Make PolyMesh3D button.

  3. 3. Open the SubTool subpalette and click on ShadowBox, which is somewhat hidden below the big ReMesh All button, as shown in the next screenshot:

  4. 4. ZBrush will try to rebuild the sphere with three shadow box masks, as the following screenshot shows. As we don't want to keep that form, let's clear the mask by Ctrl + dragging on the canvas. Clearing the masking on the shadow box will also clear any mesh inside. Without masks, there is no cross section for ZBrush to build:

  5. 5. Let's start with the body of the ship. Such a large part requires a higher resolution. The three sliders shown in the next screenshot work for the ReMesh All as well as for the ShadowBox. Increase the Res to 256. Changes to these sliders take effect, only if we exit and re-enter ShadowBox by pressing its button twice:
