Managing applications


Applications are a very important part in System Center Configuration Manager 2012 and 2012 R2. This is why we went deep into the process of application creation and application properties. The next sections will describe additional properties and some features in order to use the maximum potential of applications.

Dependencies

Many applications require some prerequisites to be met before their installation. For example, many Microsoft products require the .NET framework to be present on the system.

In some applications, there is a mechanism to install all prerequisites with a single click. However, this mechanism is not smart because it will reinstall that prerequisite even if it is present on the system.

Dependencies in System Center Configuration Manager 2012 R2 are smart. When an application has a dependency, both the detection and requirement rules are executed in order to determine which deployment type to use. If the application has a prerequisite and the prerequisite...
