Role-based administration


The Configuration Manager console is context-sensitive based on the security of the administrative users. The console will display only what the user can manage.

The Show Me concept in the System Center Configuration Manager 2012 console displays only the relevant workspaces, panes, nodes, and objects that the user can manage. By reducing the information in the console, navigation is easier.

The console is designed to reflect only what the user is assigned to do. This behavior means that specialized console customization is no longer required, because it will change and display what is allowed. This means that you deploy a single console and let the security details do the rest.

For the administrative user to use the Configuration Manager console, the user must be assigned to at least one role or the console will fail to connect to the server. After the role is defined when you start the Configuration Manager console, the objects that fall under the management scope...
