Inventory


The Inventory module (also called Inventory Control) is a logical place to start setting up the distribution modules, as they all center on the inventory items. Inventory menu options will be under the Inventory series, and the SQL Server tables for the Inventory module will start with IV.

One common misconception is that the Inventory module is needed only if your company is selling physical goods and needs to track the number of items in stock. In reality, the Dynamics GP Inventory module can also be used in many other situations. The following are two examples of non-conventional inventory uses:

  • Selling services: A company that sells services to customers can greatly speed up data entry and accuracy, as well as facilitate more meaningful reporting, by setting up each service as an inventory item that does not track quantities.
