ArcGIS Pro provides several methods to create new 2D maps within a project. You have already seen how creating a new project using a template can automatically create a new map. However, that is not the only way to create new maps within a project. There are several other methods to create or add maps to your projects. Remember that an ArcGIS Pro project can contain multiple maps.

A map only provides a canvas. You must add the content. This normally means adding layers, which represent the features you wish to display within your map. Just as there are multiple methods to create new maps, there is also more than one way to add new layers to a map.
