Using Filters


Without the ability to filter, you can still see some pretty important information in a Power BI report. We could look at our payables aged trial balance and see everything that we owe. However, what if I want to narrow down the report and see only the cost of goods sold to vendors or just 1,099 vendors? What if I was looking at a receivables aged trial balance, and I wanted to see only customers for a particular salesman? After all, if we're looking at financial numbers from the general ledger, wouldn't we all want to see just a particular period or year? Enter: filters. Filters can be set in the Visualizations pane of the Power BI Desktop.

We can filter for:

  • The entire report/file, perhaps eliminating all voided transactions.

  • The entire page; maybe we have a page on the report that has only unpaid invoices and another page that has all active vendors.

  • A single visual. This would allow a single page on the report to contain a visual for unpaid transactions and a visual for active...
