After we have successfully modeled the business process, it is time for process implementation. Nowadays, it is important that IT provides end-to-end support for business processes. In the past, software offered distinct functionalities that employees had to select. Although these functionalities were helpful, the process was driven by the employees. They had to know which steps to take and when to do what. This had several drawbacks. As the process knowledge was in the heads of employees, finding replacements for these employees that had the required knowledge was difficult. Then, there was no real control on what is going on. The visibility into process execution was limited. It also happened that when information on a process activity was handed over by one employee to another, it was lost and eventually forgotten untill the customer noticed a gap in service. If the process flow is not well documented, it might be difficult even to introduce new employees .
