Summary


This chapter is a classic, real-life example of information and application integration challenges that face major corporations. The insurance company has a 25-year-old mainframe system that still runs core 401K investment programs for Fortune 500 companies. This legacy system needed to integrate with a modern Oracle database and messaging-based systems. The combination of the Oracle Database 11g, Oracle legacy adapters for application integration through COBOL programs, Oracle legacy adapters for data integration with VSAM and flat files, and Oracle MQSeries adapters were deployed to solve this complex application and information integration business problem. Oracle BPEL Process Manager was used to orchestrate and manage the information and application flow.
