Consuming an existing document service

In Dynamics AX, document services allow data to be exchanged with external systems by sending and receiving XML documents, such as customers, sales orders, vendors, and many others.

In this recipe, we will explore how data could be retrieved from the system using one of the existing services. We will create a .NET console application that will get a currency description from the system using the read operation.

How to do it...

Carry out the following steps in order to complete this recipe:

  1. 1. In the AOT, locate the CurrencyServices service group.

  2. 2. Choose the Deploy Service Group option from the right-click context menu. A number of messages should be displayed in the Infolog about successful deployment.

  3. 3. Open System administration | Setup | Services and Application Integration Framework | Inbound ports to check the newly deployed service (note the WSDL URI value):

  4. 4. In Visual Studio, create a new Visual C# Console Application project named ConsumeExistingDocumentService...
