A: Good question. First, remember that governance is a continuing process and not a "one-shot deal", where a great deal of documentation is produced, reviewed, and updated. Where to start does depend on your current SharePoint strategy, as discussed in the previous chapter. If your organization is new to SharePoint, we suggest that you identify the most basic areas that are required to be governed, such as:
IT — service level agreements, enterprise applications, application owners, budgets, and database management
Internal/external end users in terms of security and training
Development — release policies, technical documentation, and support
Infrastructure — backup and restore procedures, server names, and authentication
Training
Security — who can edit content and make changes to infrastructure
