Now you are probably thinking and scratching your head about how SharePoint capacity can be grown and where to start. This section provides some direction to your thoughts.

Q: How do I start to grow capacity?

A: The best way is to plan, which is why the strategy roadmap that was discussed is so important, as it prioritizes activities and aligns them to your business needs.

Obviously budget is important, so by aligning a growth path to your business needs, budgets can be allocated accordingly.

Q: What if I can't get budget to grow capacity?

A: Assuming that you have looked at the following:

  • Haven't bought top of the line servers

  • Servers have been consolidated into a virtualized environment

  • Only identified essential SharePoint initiates

  • Looked at new training options (training is usually the first item to suffer when there is a budget review)
