Creating a document data source


Before you are able to use data from Dynamics AX in a Word report template, you need to register it as a document data source.

In this recipe, we will show how you register a query as a document data source so that you will be able to use it in Word.

How to do it...

To create a new document data source, follow these steps:

  1. Open up the Document data sources form from the Document Management folder of the Setup group on the Organization administration area page.

  2. This will show you a list of available document data sources that have already been registered with your version of Dynamics AX. Click on the New button on the menu bar to create a new document data source.

  3. Select the module that you want the service to be related to.

  4. Word will only read the Query reference data source types; so from the Data source type dropdown, select Query reference.

  5. You can now select any of the queries that have been registered within Dynamics AX from the Data source name drop-down box...
