Data backups

Most organizations implementing Dynamics GP will already have a backup solution and schedule in place. If there is no existing backup solution, it is highly recommended to implement one prior to the Dynamics GP implementation. For new or existing backup solutions, you should verify that there is adequate room to add the additional data generated by Dynamics GP.

For backup solutions with a lot of available space, companies may choose to backup an entire server. At the very least, plan to back up the following:

What to back up

How often

Notes

SQL Server databases:

  • master

  • GP system database

  • All GP company databases

Full backups: daily

After the initial installation and configuration of Dynamics GP, the master database does not get updated very often in most environments. However, it is also typically not very large and is very useful to have if a complete system restore is ever required.

Transaction logs: several times a day

Modified dictionary files

Daily and before changes...
