Summary


We discussed multiple options used to access historical data without looking at backing up files. However, all options need you to enable and configure before it starts tracking.

Field history tracking will be the most convenient way when you need to audit value changes over time to the fields. Users are not allowed to create or modify the value. Feed tracking has almost similar tracking to field history tracking, feed tracking is more for collaboration with your team, where users following the record will be notified, and they are able to make comments in Chatter feeds.

Scheduling reporting snapshots at a daily or weekly frequency will capture data for that time, so you will be able to analyze the data captured in the custom object later on. Historical trending is the latest technology offered by Salesforce out of the box, where you are able to watch the data change over time.
