OpenOffice Access to SQL Azure


SQL Azure can not only be accessed via Microsoft products, it can also be accessed by open source software. This section describes how one may access SQL Azure with OpenOffice.

OpenOffice — as the name implies — is the Open Source Office suite of programs that can be freely downloaded and distributed. General information about OpenOffice.org can be found here: http://www.openoffice.org/about_us/introduction.html. By following the indicated steps it is quite easy to connect to SQL Azure:

  1. 1. Download the latest version of the software here (in the Download tab): http://download.openoffice.org/index.html. Present (August 2010) version is 3.2.1 and File name:OOo_3.2.1_Win_x86_install-wJRE_en-US.exe (~152 MB).

  2. 2. Double-click the executable to open and install OpenOffice 3.2.1. It is a relatively fast install. The program, by default, will be in the Program Files\OpenOffice.org 3 folder. You will find a number of executable programs in the program folder such as sbase...
