Summary


Structured or transactional data in enterprises is growing at exponential rates, which is resulting in enterprises spending significant amounts of money to keep up with application performance, storage costs, risk mitigation from industry regulations, and so on. Traditional techniques like hardware and storage refresh are only taking enterprises so far. ILM allows enterprises to manage data growth consistently in adherence with corporate policies.

ILM policies allow enterprises to address the data movement from its creation to destruction, while improving the performance of applications by keeping the production databases at optimum levels and reducing the storage costs with the data being moved based on retention policies. The ILM strategy for structured applications helps both active applications as well legacy applications that are prime candidates for retirement but are kept running for the sake of their data.
