As at the time of writing this chapter, there are no official major standards for Event Processing languages. As we have discussed in other chapters there are various forms of language implementations depending on the vendor. However, there is a technical body called the Event Processing Technical Society (EPTS) that is striving to set some guidelines and taxonomy of terms for this domain.
Oracle Corporation is one of the steering committee members of EPTS and its objective is the development of shared understanding for event processing terminology.
The society believes that through communicating the shared understanding developed within the group it would assist in driving the emergence of effective interoperation standards, would encourage academic research, and the creation of training curriculum.
