After spending this much time on HTTP
connections you may think that this is the only supported connection type available. Oh no, not so! If you want, there are many other connections available. Most people are only interested in HTTP
though, but for those who are interested we'll briefly cover a few other types here.
A very near relative to HTTP
is the secure version, HTTPS
. In general, communicating with an HTTPS
connection is the same as with an HTTP
connection. The only real difference is that the address portion of the connection string specifies https://
instead of http://
. When this happens, the Connector
class returns an HttpsConnection
object instead of an HttpConnection
object, but as the HttpsConnection
is derived from HttpConnection
, it will essentially function the same.
