Playing local FLV video

Key to the Flash platform's success over the years has been its FLV file format, which delivers Sorenson Spark or ON2 VP6 encoded video both locally and over the Internet.

In this recipe, we will see how to load FLV video that has been bundled with an AIR for iOS app.

Getting ready

Use chapter12\recipe1\recipe.fla from the book's accompanying code bundle as a starting point.

Also, an FLV video is available from chapter12\resources\video.flv and should be copied to chapter12\recipe1\ before proceeding.

The video is intended to be viewed on a device held in a landscape orientation. To accommodate this requirement, the FLA's stage size has been set to 480x320 pixels rather than the default portrait orientation of 320x480.

How to do it...

This recipe is split into two main steps. First we will bundle the FLV video with the app, then we will write some ActionScript to play it back.
