Specifying a persistent Wi-Fi connection


While many applications periodically connect to the Internet, there are some, such as chat clients and multiuser games that require a constant connection. These types of applications can be rendered useless if a persistent connection isn't available. By editing its application descriptor file, it is possible to stipulate that your app requires a persistent connection to a Wi-Fi network.

Let us see how to do this.

Getting ready

From the book's accompanying code bundle, open chapter13\recipe2\recipe.fla into Flash Professional and work from there. Its document class contains the code from the previous recipe, Monitoring Internet connectivity. Don't worry if you haven't attempted this recipe, as an understanding of it isn't required.

How to do it...

You can edit your application descriptor file from an external text editor or from Flash Professional. We will use Flash Professional.

  1. Open the application descriptor file by selecting File | Open (Ctrl + O | Cmd...
