Panning an object


Given the size constraints of screens on iOS devices, such as the iPhone and iPod touch, a user may need to pan or scroll to reveal content that is sitting out of view. The Flash platform provides the TransformGestureEvent.GESTURE_PAN event that you can listen for in order to detect a pan gesture on any interactive object. The gesture is initiated by the user placing two fingers on an object then sliding them across the screen to move it.

This recipe will show you how to take advantage of the pan gesture in your projects.

Getting ready

From Flash Professional, open chapter5\recipe7\recipe.fla from the book's accompanying code bundle.

Sitting on the stage is a movie clip named bubble, which is too large to fit fully on screen. We will write some ActionScript to let the user pan the movie clip in order to see parts that are hidden from view.
