After configuration of the DNS entries, we should be ready to test the Office 365 tenant and associated domain.
After we've enabled the domain in Office 365 and configured the DNS records required, it's worth taking the opportunity to ensure that we can resolve the entries successfully. To validate the entries, we can use the built-in Windows command, nslookup
.
We'll be looking up the three records we've added in the previous step:
nslookup
> autodiscover.lisajanedesigns.co.uk
Name: autodiscover.outlook.com
Address: 65.55.94.86
Aliases: autodiscover.lisajanedesigns.co.uk
> set q=MX
> lisajanedesigns.co.uk
lisajanedesigns.co.uk MX preference = 5, mail exchanger =
lisajanedesigns-co-uk.mail.eo.outlook.com.
> set q=TXT
> lisajanedesigns.co.uk
lisajanedesigns.co.uk text =
"v=spf1 include:outlook.com ~all"
If you've used nslookup
before, then you might notice we've used a non-default option to look up the TXT and MX records, namely...
