Summary


In this chapter, we have discovered how to create a preference pane and integrate it into the System Preferences.

Specifically, we covered how a preference pane is similar to, and different from, an App. We continued by discussing some key aspects of Mac OS X 10.7 (the 64-bit transition and Sudden Termination) that affect preference pane development. We then covered how to customize an Xcode project template including creating a new icon for a Mac OS X preference pane. Finally, we covered how to execute terminal commands from inside our program code including how to retrieve values from terminal commands and use them inside our program code.

Now that we've learned how to develop a System Preference, we are going to turn our attention to another aspect of programming which is business applications. We are going to look at how we can retrieve information from the Internet and use it to satisfy a common need in the business world, the conversion of monies between different currencies...
