What is the full screen mode?

Full Screen mode is a standardized protocol provided by Apple, introduced in Mac OS X 10.7, to support Apps that want to make use of the entire display rather than windows on the display. When an App enters full screen mode, the protocol automatically creates a new space for it and resizes the desired window or view to occupy the complete display. Historically, Apps that wanted this kind of interface have had to do all of the implementation in detail and different App developers have selected different mechanisms to achieve the full screen mode experience. By providing a standardized mechanism, Apple has recognized that there is a place for full screen Apps and they are encouraging App developers that have used non-standard implementation to migrate to the new standardized protocol for full screen.
