Upgrading from Dynamics AX 2012


Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Enterprise edition provides an upgrade path to customers who currently run Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 to move data and code. The upgrade process is built on the following elements:

  • Tools to upgrade your custom application code from AX 2012
  • A process to upgrade your existing 2012 database with full transaction history

The overall upgrade process can be better visualized as a three-fold approach comprising of analyze, execute, and validate.

  • Analyze: Analysis part of the upgrade project is about going through upgrade planning considerations described in the last section and evaluating the estimates around code upgrade and data upgrade activity. To start with upgrade project analysis and estimation, you can create upgrade/migration project in LCS and select migration methodology.
