As described in detail throughout this book, Oracle GoldenGate 12c supports replication to and from multitenant databases that are key components in the cloud revolution. In the Oracle 12c Release 1 Database Upgrade Guide, Oracle has announced: "The non-CDB architecture is deprecated in Oracle Database 12c, and may be desupported and unavailable in a release after Oracle Database 12c Release 2. Oracle recommends use of the CDB architecture".
For clarity, the CDB architecture includes the following key components:
The container database (CDB): This is the type of database that is created when the database supports Oracle's multitenant option. The container database is also called the ROOT container.
