Applying object level security


The main idea of applying object level security is to give access to the authorized users or groups to BI objects stored on in the BI repository. Normally, end users will access BI objects (or Documents) from the SAP BI Launch pad. We can apply object level security on any of the following:

  • Folders

  • Categories

  • Web Intelligence reports

  • Crystal reports

  • Dashboards

    Note

    A category is a virtual logical folder that can contain BI documents from different physical folders, while folders are a physical location for BI documents on the server.

We can grant or deny access to user or a group of users. The best practice is to organize our folders based on the BI document's subject area. For example, in the banking industry we can store all reports and dashboards related to loans in one physical folder, while we can create multiple categories based on departments, such as one for the risk department and another for Finance. These categories will just have pointers to BI documents...
