Creating date elements


In this recipe, we are going to use the TRANSDATE date metadata element in the SALESFACT table to create date elements. This is an alternative to using a Calendar dimension or building a Calendar table in the relational environment.

Getting ready

To get started, click on the Start menu and navigate to Programs | Oracle EPM System | Essbase | Essbase Studio . Then log in to Essbase Studio using your server, username, and password.

How to do it…

  1. On the right side of your Essbase Studio screen, you are going to see two tabs. Click on the Minischemas tab, drill down on the Minischema node, drill down on the TBC minischema, select the SALESFACT folder, and drag the folder to the Metadata Navigator.

  2. Drill down on the SALESFACT table, right-click on TRANSDATE, and select Create Date Element…. The selection menu should pop up, as shown in the following screenshot:
