Understanding the Oracle Support model


No matter how we might try to solve every problem on our own, DBAs sometimes still have to ask for help. Certain Oracle errors, such as the dreaded ORA-0600 error, can be extremely difficult to solve without the intervention of Oracle Support services. Fortunately, Oracle provides an extremely useful website, My Oracle Support (formerly called Metalink), which can be found at https://support.oracle.com.

Using My Oracle Support

Note that support services are only available to paying customers of Oracle software. Those downloading Oracle for their own non-commercial use do not have access to the site. At the preceding URL, we are directed to log in with an authenticated username and password to the site, which we acquire as a result of the purchase process. Once we log in, we see the following startup screen that loads the necessary components to run the content-rich site:
