Summary


Reporting Services is one of the components of SQL Server 2014 for developing robust and powerful reports. SSRS provides a wide range of charts and components such as Gauges and Data Bars to be added to the report. SSRS reports also use expressions, which are a powerful way to add dynamism. They also provide the functionality to add calculated fields or KPIs in reports. A wide range of data sources are supported by Reporting Services. In this chapter, we only showed the SQL Server database engine as the main source for our samples, but SSRS can connect to analysis services cubes and databases and many other data sources as well.

Parameters in reports can be used for user or customized application interaction. Parameters can be added and configured from the Report Data pane. In this chapter, you've also learned to apply formatting on visualization items. Sorting and grouping of items in data fields was also discussed.
