Throughout the life of your project, you will interact with an important group of people: your stakeholders. Gaining stakeholder buy-in is critical for the success of your project. Let’s talk a bit about who they are, what they want, and your role as the project manager in engaging with them.
A stakeholder is a person or an organization that has a vested interest in your project. In other words, they have something to gain or lose as a result of performing the project. They typically have a lot of influence. As you would expect, most of your stakeholders are concerned about the needs of their own departments (or organizations) first.
