Chapter 12. Sharing and Refreshing Data and Dashboards in Power BI

So, now we have data and we have visuals, in the form of reports, and we have data and reports in the Power BI service. We are ready to share these visuals with our co-workers. There are a variety of methods of sharing these reports. The easiest, and most obvious, is just to share the Power Bi Desktop (*.pbix) file we create, like we do with Excel files. This certainly works, but then you might have a lot of versions out there, which also might be fine.

In this chapter, we'll cover other methods of sharing data and adding the element of refreshing dashboards as well. Refreshing becomes more important when the visuals are only in the Power BI service (web). Specifically, we will cover the following topics:

  • Power BI Template

  • Content packs

  • Online services

  • Refreshing data
