The three UX roles
If I didn't see an UX versus UI post on social media for a week, I would start to suspect zombie apocalypse. What people rarely mention is the separation of UX roles within a UX team. Ten years ago, if a company had a single UX/UI person for one hundred engineers, that was a sign of forward thinking and user-centricity. Nowadays, both the public and the private sector is swarming with UX designers. Usually, a handful of UX designers are led by a head of UX or UX manager. This is miles better than what we had ten years ago, but far from ideal.
In my experience, high-performing UX teams have three distinct roles: design (UXD), research (UXR), and management (UXM). Every person in each role should understand the other roles. Maps and communication bind the team together.
