Multivariate options and what elements you can experiment with

There are two features within Mailchimp that will handle experimentation for you:

  • A/B Testing
  • Multivariate Testing

Note about accessing these features

Both of these are paid features within the Mailchimp platform; they’re just available at different price points. A/B Testing is available with the Essentials and Standard plans and Multivariate Testing is only available to those with a Premium account, or Pro add-on if you have an older account.

The core differences between the two features are that, as the name implies, A/B Testing only allows you to test one variable at a time, whereas Multivariate Testing allows you to mix and match up to three variables at once. The variables that they both allow you to experiment with are as follows:

  • Subject line
  • From name
  • Content
  • Send time
